At the club meeting on March 7th, club member Dr. Mark Ellis AO, ophthalmologist, gave a presentation on the forthcoming Sumba Eyecare Nurses Study Tour to Melbourne in May 2017.

Mark introduced two of the Indonesian nurses who assist him on the Island of Sumba, Sr.Nefriana Buto Rade and Sr.Motara Sany. They are both well qualified and speak English very well. They are in Australia for the first time and will be visiting many eye clinics and the Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital to further their training.

Mark showed  photos of the nurses ably assisting him in Sumba. The nurses can now test eye vision, which was formerly done by the optometrists; they can  assist with a lot of the paperwork required following an operation and they are proficient in using the instruments.

Following their time in Melbourne, the nurses will visit Sydney. Mark was obviously very pleased to have these skilled nurses helping him in Sumba.
