Bushfire Relief Project in East Gippsland

The Rotary Club of Glenferrie has joined a Rotary project to assist those affected by the devastating bushfires in Gippsland. Joining with Rotarians and clubs in Rotary District 9820, the club has made an initial donation of $5,000 to the Rotary appeal for bushfire relief. In March, a team comprising members and friends of the club will travel to Gippsland to join with fellow Rotarians and other community groups to assist with clean-up and other recovery activities. The District 9820 led project is just one of many projects being led by Rotarians in bushfire devastated regions.

Clean Up Day Clean Sweep at Patterson Reserve

The first day of Autumn heralded the annual Clean Up Australia event at Patterson Reserve, this time ably led by Alex Marshall of the Community Service Team, with Robert and Miffy Hogan taking charge of the superb BBQ afterwards. Intrepid club members were joined by volunteer members of the public and wasted no time in getting to work. “It’s amazing what you find stuffed into the plants in the carpark”, said one clean up volunteer, whilst those nearby tried not to look.

This year there actually didn’t seem to be as much rubbish as in the past which, given the heavy use Patterson Reserve, the hockey fields and surrounding parklands are subject to, is really very pleasing. Of course it wouldn't be a Rotary event without a BBQ afterwards, and noone was disappointed on that account.
